Editorial: Female Films
For some strange reason, people are always shocked when women go out to the films. Me? I always think, why wonder? Women like good food, books and movies. In fact, they like films better than men. After all, films are a good chance for girls to get together. Here are a list of films that have come out recently that have SHOCKED critics due to their success.
*The Blind Side
*Sex and The City
*The Proposal
*The Ugly Truth
*The Devil Wears Prada
*Mamma Mia!
The tradition is likely to continue with Sex and The City 2 and It's Complicated. So why is it so surprising when you have this list of female films?
My theory, is that while it is a big list, the list for films that are powered by men dwarfs it. When you compare the two, it looks like males are the only ones that see movies, whereas women actually make up a good chunk of the audience of the movie market.
It just makes you wonder why executives just keep using the same old "WOW!! A female film was hit! That's new!" excuse over and over. Really makes you wonder.
